What is TFB?

Texas Federation of the Blind is a nonprofit, tax deductible organization charters by the state in May, 1951. TFB is not affiliated with any other state or national organizations other than for purposes of mutual concern.

The Road Ahead

Although we have accomplished much, more remains to be done. The blind population in Texas now approaches one million people. They include the elderly, diabetics, glaucoma patients, people suffering from cataracts and macular degeneration, children who were born prematurely, persons with retinitis pigmentosa, and those who are totally or legally blind from other causes.

These people need training and support for the rapidly changing demands of the workplace, the constantly increasing demands of the scholastic world, and the hardships that a world without vision has suddenly thrust upon them. Not only these, but many more areas of equal concern place heavy burdens for financial and manpower commitment on our organization.

TFB, A Long History of Cooperative Action

For over 53 years TFB has achieved their goals through cooperation with other organizations and agencies that are working toward similar purposes. We have done this by providing:
  • Scholarships
  • Information and Referral Services
  • Direct Advocacy
  • Comprehensive Legislative Awareness
In addition, each local chapter is active in taking on projects, and meeting the individual needs of the blind and visually impaired population in their community.

Southeast Texas Chapter Meetings

Our group meets the Third Thursday of Every month @ the Orange Salvation Army. You are invited to join us. If you like what you see and hear, memberships are available for both Active (Blind) and Associate (Sighted). Dues are $15 per year.
